City National Bank has reorganized its leadership team, hiring banking industry veteran Howard Hammond as CEO, and moving Kelly Coffey to a new role as CEO of City National Entertainment.

The transition, effective Nov. 27, was driven in part by City National’s desire to focus more deeply on its entertainment customer base across television, film, music, theater, touring and related fields. Coffey, who is based in Beverly Hills, joined the firm from JPMorgan’s Private Wealth Management division and has been CEO of City National since 2019.

“For me, banking has always been about the customer – the people, businesses and nonprofits we support,” Coffey said. “The entertainment industry is incredibly dynamic and it is City National’s role to support this community as we continue to be at the forefront of industry developments and hone our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients. Now more than ever, it’s important. We’re excited to work more closely with our clients and help City National better serve them.”

Jahan Wang, Executive Vice President of Entertainment Banking at City National, will continue to report to Mr. Kelly. Martha Henderson, another CNB veteran, will remain vice chair of entertainment banking.

Mr. Hammond joins CNB from Fifth Third Bancorp, where he most recently served as Executive Vice President and Head of Consumer Banking. He will report to Greg Carmichael, Executive Chairman of City National Bank.

“Kelly has had a tremendous impact on City National over the past five years. Her focus on the customer ensures that customer centricity continues to be a hallmark of the bank’s culture and that it is the bank’s differentiator. Keep going,” Carmichael said. “Her new role builds on City National’s 70-year tradition of supporting the entertainment community and allows her to focus her significant talents on helping our entertainment customers thrive. Sho.”

Mr. Hammond will also join CNB’s board of directors and become a member of the executive committee of RBC’s U.S. holding company.

“City National has an incredible reputation for putting our clients, colleagues and community first,” Hammond said. “I look forward to working closely with Greg, Kelly and the rest of the management team to further build on City National’s strengths and lead the business into the future.”
