Cleveland Cavaliers starting forward Evan Mobley sprained his left ankle during Tuesday’s improbable victory over the Boston Celtics, and multiple league sources say he is likely to be sidelined again for an extended period of time due to injury. Told. The Athletic.

Mobley was injured while making a dunk with 5:29 left in the third quarter as the Cavs overcame a 22-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Celtics 105-104. Mobley’s teammate Sam Merrill committed a foul after the Cavs twisted his ankle to remove Mobley from the game, and Mobley was taken back to the locker room. Mobley left Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on crutches and missed the team’s game Wednesday night in Atlanta.
Mobley, an All-NBA defender who is averaging 15.6 points and 10.2 rebounds this season, missed six weeks from mid-December to late January due to minor knee surgery. Dean Wade, who replaced him in Tuesday’s win, scored 20 of his 23 points in Cleveland’s ferocious fourth-quarter comeback.
The Cavs are still playing this week without starters Donovan Mitchell (left knee) and Max Strus (right knee), who together with Mobley make up three-fifths of the regular starters.
Cleveland enters tonight’s game as second in the East Division, a half-game behind Milwaukee.
