On Tuesday night, it was announced that the Bucks have made some changes to their roster to strengthen the cornerback position. After a brief stint with the Panthers, Keenan Isaac was added to the active roster after re-signing to the team’s practice squad.

KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson first reported the news.

Wilson also reported that Tampa Bay added cornerback Darris Flowers to the practice squad in place of Isaac.

Cornerback Jamel Dean injured his hamstring in Sunday’s game against the Saints, but the Bucs added Keenan Isaac to the active roster and promoted him. Dean has yet to play a full regular season in his six-year NFL career, so Isaac provides familiar depth and additional insurance should he be unavailable for Monday night’s game against the Ravens. This season, he was active in just one game and appeared in six games on special teams.

Undrafted rookie cornerback Tyreke Funderburk filled in admirably after Dean left the game. Playing 86% of snaps and recorded four tackles. Without the veteran cornerbacks we have now, depth chart Zion McCollum, Funderburk, Josh Hayes, and now Isaac.

Time will tell how long Dean will be out, but the team could potentially choose to carry five cornerbacks on its 53-man roster going forward.

If the Bucs need another cornerback option, the addition of Darris Flowers is interesting on multiple levels. Flowers, 27, has the size head coach Todd Bowles covets at his position at 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds. He has gained a wealth of experience since entering the league from the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

While in Indianapolis, Flowers appeared in 21 games and started five. He started last season as a starting cornerback alongside Kenny Moore II, but injured his Achilles tendon in Week 4 and was placed on injured reserve. He was waived earlier this month after allowing an 85-yard touchdown to Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. spread for the wrong reasons.

Flowers has totaled 38 tackles, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble in his NFL career. He also provides depth as a kick returner. In 2022, he led the league with an average return of 31.1 yards, and this season he returned one kick for 30 yards.
