Tampa Bay wrapped up the 2023 Bucks’ rookie minicamp Saturday at the Advent Health Training Center again in muggy weather. Defensive back Josh Hayes, outside linebacker Jose Ramirez, inside linebacker Servosia Dennis and wide receiver Trey Palmer addressed the media before practice.
The Bucks have officially announced the signing of undrafted free-agent running back Sean Tucker from Syracuse. Tucker was absent from practice yesterday and is medically cleared to participate as he is recovering from an undisclosed heart condition discovered at the NFL Scouting Combine. However, he attended practice to see what was going on, and did not participate while wearing the number 44 jersey.
Offensive lineman Cyrus Zanci also attended the Bucks’ rookie minicamp practice for the first time on Saturday. Zhansi, a potential swing tackle, missed practice on Friday.
Todd Bowles missed Day 2 for good reason
Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles missed Day Two of the Bucks’ rookie minicamp, but was excused.bowles graduated After enrolling at Mount St. Mary’s College last fall and leaving Temple University without a degree 37 years ago, he kept a promise to his mother and pursued an NFL career with the Washington Redskins.
Bowles graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Youth and Community Development and wanted to walk with the graduates in Frederick, Maryland. He will also give a short address to the graduates during the ceremony.
Instead, assistant head coach Harold Goodwin will run the Bucks’ rookie mini-camp practice on Saturday, with co-defensive coordinators Larry Foote and Casey Rodgers on defense and, of course, offensive coordinator Dave Canales. was in charge of
Bucks Rookie Mini Camp Notebook – Offense
• Bucks run game coordinator Harold Goodwin spoke for Todd Bowles after practice, praising the team’s second-round pick, rookie right guard Cody Mauch.
“I love it, I love it,” Goodwin said of Mauch’s progress. “He is still trying to figure out some things, but I can see that he is overly anxious. But we’ll get him there.…The biggest thing for him is probably a lot of new stories and new terms, just getting comfortable.
That’s how Luke [Goedeke] And he’s playing on the grass, and we can confidently communicate with each other and kick together. …nothing like cliff notes or pre-draft classes to counter the Vita [Vea] every day. As long as you keep at it, things will naturally go well. We must guide him and be patient with him. I hope I don’t do him like Luke, who saw four or five Pro Bowlers in a row. ”
• The Bucks’ new offensive coordinator, Dave Canales, continues to fly around the practice field with energy, and there’s noticeable momentum in his steps. Canales teamed up with all three tryout quarterbacks in Lindsay Scott, Keiran Wiggins and Kyle Vantreese when practice kicked off with a 25-minute kick coverage special teams period. It certainly wouldn’t have hurt Canales spending time watching some of the draft picks and undrafted free agents joining the offense during special teams practice.
But Canales is a quarterback coach at heart and, more importantly, has never worked with new quarterback coach Thad Ruiz. Canales spent 25 minutes conducting a variety of pitching drills, giving Ruiz an idea of exactly what training would look like. Assistants are extensions of the coordinator and should broadcast the same messages to the players. The time Canales has spent with Luis and tryout quarterbacks will prove valuable next time the Bucks move OTA.
• Bucks rookie interior offensive lineman Chris Murray has quite the physique. At 6-foot-1 and 294 pounds, Murray has a stocky, compact build and plenty of muscle. Murray is transitioning from Oklahoma guard to NFL center.
“I like him and he’s enthusiastic,” Goodwin said. “He’s also an avid beaver. He has to keep calm and make all the calls. He had a little swim today, but he doesn’t have much of it, so it’s not too bad.” I did. In the long run, it will be fine.”
• Sixth-round wide receiver Trey Palmer told the media he honestly believes he’s not fast. This despite him scoring 4.33 in the NFL Scouting Combine. Palmer was quick enough and showed it on an 11-11 end-around.
• Undrafted running back Ronnie Brown is as good as advertised. He catches anything thrown at him and exhibits excellent explosive power through holes. On one play in particular, he showed great vision to break through the hole and make a big gain.
• Rookie tight end Payne Durham continues to make it look easy by throwing footballs out of the air with his big frame. He made some great grabs during Saturday’s rookie minicamp practice for the Bucks. I have recovered from a turbulent day on Friday.
Bucks Rookie Minicamp Notes – Defense
• Undrafted free agent Tennessee linebacker Jeremy Banks’ closing speed was on full display today, rifled tight end Payne Durham and tilted a pass in the air, also in the draft. Caught outside by Iowa safety Kavon Merriweather.
• 2022 undrafted cornerback Don Gardner continues to impress. After scoring an interception in practice on Friday, he earned another near pick on Day 2 of the Rookie Minicamp. Gardner spent all of last season on the practice team after an impressive showing in training camp.
• FIRST ROUND DEFENSIVE TACKLES Kariya Kansi There were occasional descents, which were noticeable on positional drills, especially on 11-0n-11. Cansi dived into the backfield with a low snap and sacked the quarterback in tryouts.
• Inside linebacker Servosia Dennis, one of the team’s fifth-round picks, landed a stunning one-handed grab while backpedaling during individual practice. Dennis made a successful interception in practice on Friday.
• Towards the end of an 11-on-11 practice, a wildcat vs. wildcat crime erupted when two former Kansas State players faced each other. Wide receiver Cade Warner is lined up to face Nickelback/safety Josh Hayes.
Warner took a step on the inside and then cut hard on the outside, a route Hayes seemed to recognize instantly from when he practiced with him at K State and covered him step by step. Warner covered, so the ball had to go to another receiver.
Christian Igien, the undrafted defensive back Todd Bowles compared to Antoine Winfield Jr., will get a crack at the corner spot in the starting lineup. The Rutgers safety has been rotating in that position during two days of minicamp with Hayes and seems to be firmly established in the tournament.
