It’s not a sequel to the Arkham game that ended with Arkham Knight, but its release got people talking about the franchise again and gave us the urge to revisit it.

If you haven’t tried the game before, it’s mostly a great title, holding up years later with an amazing voice cast, including the late great Kevin Conroy.

If you’re new to them or want to revisit them, here’s all the games in the order they were released, or chronologically if you want to go in story order.

How to play Batman Arkham games in story order

If you want to play the Batman Arkham games in story order, at any point you can step inside Bruce Wayne’s head without breaking the continuity.

  • arkham origins
  • Arkham Asylum
  • arkham city
  • Arkham VR
  • arkham knight

These four games and a VR spin-off should keep you busy for a while! You’ll be in full Dark Knight mode, sleeping upside down and punching your way through work with your imaginary butler.

Batman Arkham games in order of release date

If you want to play these games in order of release, you’ll find that the graphics and gameplay have (in theory) improved with each installment. This release date order helps…

Arkham Asylum (2009)

Available on: PC, Mac, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

For some, this is still the best Arkham game, and it’s easy to see why. It was a great move that completely absorbed players in the twisted way it operated. It captivated us upon release and is still replayable years later.

Arkham City (2011)

Available on: PC, Mac, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Wii U

Leaving Exile behind, Arkham City once again pits Bat against the Joker and many other foes and takes us to the city of Gotham. This is a much bigger game than the first, and is held in high regard by most fans as Asylum. Again, we get another tight story that’s compelling from start to finish, and Riddler’s challenges are taken to another level on a bigger playing field.

Arkham Origins (2013)

Available on: PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Wii U

Rocksteady Studios was behind the Arkham series, but it was WB Games Montréal that spearheaded Arkham Origins. It’s safe to say that this game isn’t on many people’s favorite lists. Not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but this prequel lacks the spark of previous entries – Batman’s dedication to detective skills was appreciated.

Arkham Knight (2015)

Available on: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The last game in the series was the biggest, but not the best. Arkham Knight has a lot to offer, especially the story, and there are some great set pieces that make you want to play it a second time. However, there are a few issues surrounding the largely worn Batmobile (we still wake up in a cold sweat thinking about tank battles), which felt disappointing to some. , is sufficient to be overall satisfactory.

Arkham VR (2016)

Available on: PC, PS4, PS5 (requires PSVR, HTC Vive or Meta headset)

The only game in the franchise to embrace virtual reality, Batman: Arkham VR lets you experience detective mode like never before. Play from a first-person perspective, solve puzzles, and use gadgets to solve the mystery of your buddy going missing.

The game is very short, taking less than two hours for the main story, so it’s not a must. But if you have a VR setting, why not give it a try? It’s the last game to have “Arkham” in the title, but it actually fits in the story timeline between City and Knight.

What about Gotham Knights?

Available on: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

WB Montreal, creators of Arkham Origins, will release a game called Gotham Knights in 2022. Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood join Dark on a mission to wipe out Gotham without the help of his Knights.

If you plan to play all Batman games, we recommend playing Gotham Knights last. Gotham Knights is technically set in a different universe than his Arkham games, so you can play it whenever you want, to be honest, but there’s a lot to learn about Batman’s past and all of his sidekicks. It is assumed.

What about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

solid

comes to: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Rocksteady, makers of all other Arkham games, will release a game in 2023 called Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It is believed to be set in the same timeline as the Arkham games, after the events of Arkham Knight. Also recommended to play rear you did something else

However, we can’t be too sure about where it will fit or how much it will call back until the game is released. It looks loose. Just to be safe, play an Arkham game before trying this spinoff.
