albertsons companies has launched its third annual Albertsons Companies Innovation Launchpad competition, seeking emerging and innovative brands representing food, beverage and pet products. Independent food brands with net retail sales of $3 million to $10 million are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to compete live at Natural Products Expo West on March 4 in Anaheim, California.

As part of the competition, 50 entrants will be selected to present their brand to a panel of judges. Products should reflect areas such as functional beverages, hydration, non-intoxicating beverages, low sugar or low carbohydrate, protein solutions, global flavors, healthy dietary solutions, and premium pet products. The top three winners will receive prizes totaling more than $300,000, including cash and industry services. Winners will also be considered for distribution at Albertsons Cos. banner stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, ACME, Pavilions, Kings Food Markets, Balducci’s Food Lovers Market, Market Street and Haggen.

Last year, the contest attracted more than 700 applicants. The three grand prize winners were WunderEggs, Evergreen and Blue Zones Kitchen, who received prizes totaling more than $300,000, including cash and industry services. Additionally, WunderEggs, a plant-based egg alternative, is now available at Albertsons Co.’s 1,600 stores, including Safeway, Albertsons, ACME, Shaw’s and Vons.
