The threat from the Chinese Communist Party continues to grow. From the market manipulation that is harming American industry to the fentanyl crisis hitting local communities to persistent military threats against our partners and allies, the Chinese Communist Party is working with Democrats and Republicans to oppose its malign activities. has shown why we must continue to unite. As chairman of the Chinese Communist Party Special Committee, here are five key areas in which I believe the United States must focus its efforts to resist the Chinese government.

1. Protect Taiwan and America’s allies

In February, I traveled to Taiwan with the Select Committee’s ranking member, Illinois Democratic Party member Raja Krishnamoorthi, and other committee members. The meetings there and the experience on the ground reinforced the urgent need to strengthen our nation’s defense industrial base to meet the challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party’s growing military ambitions. This visit also made it clear that economic measures alone cannot be assumed to be able to stop the Chinese military from invading Taiwan. We need to expand Taiwan’s military training programs and eliminate the bottlenecks that have kept Taiwan waiting years to receive the weapons it needs to defend itself.

2. Stop the Chinese Communist Party from flooding our communities with fentanyl

China produces 97% of the world’s fentanyl precursor supply, and a bipartisan report from a special committee found earlier this month that the Chinese Communist Party surprisingly subsidizes fentanyl exports. and even warned traffickers of future crackdowns by U.S. law enforcement. As a result, the Chinese Communist Party is not only complicit in the fentanyl crisis, but an active source of an epidemic that kills nearly 100,000 Americans each year. We need to put maximum pressure on the Chinese companies that produce fentanyl precursors and the Chinese authorities that enable them.

3. Prevent the Chinese Communist Party from controlling key parts of the world economy

The Chinese Communist Party’s ambitions pose a threat to the global economy. In particular, the Chinese Communist Party seeks to control key supply chains in order to bend other countries to its will. Unfortunately, many of our country’s critical supply chains, such as electric vehicles and rare earth minerals, depend on China.

Billions of dollars in U.S. investments go to Chinese companies linked to Chinese Communist Party military, human rights abuses

China already produces nearly 60% of the world’s lithium batteries, and state and federal policies are forcing Chinese companies to use our tax dollars to support American ambitions, rather than rebuilding domestic production capacity. I encourage you to do so. One such Chinese company, CATL, receives huge subsidies from the Chinese Communist Party and has Party members working throughout the company. Now, as China floods markets around the world with cheap EVs, American automakers are feeling pressure to keep up and are considering partnering with CATL.

America’s economic leadership cannot be exchanged for technology and supply chains controlled by the Chinese government.

4. Counter the negative influence of the Chinese Communist Party at home

The Chinese Communist Party is targeting communities across America, including my home state of Michigan.

One example is Gotion, a subsidiary of China-based Gotion High Tech, which has pledged allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party. Goshon is building a battery parts factory in my district and many concerns have been raised over the past year and a half. There was even a bipartisan agreement in January, with Leon Panetta and Mike Pompeo, former CIA directors under Presidents Obama and Trump, respectively, to allow Chinese Communist Party-affiliated companies to build production lines in our country. testified about the dangers of doing so.

5. Resist the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda

The Chinese Communist Party seeks to influence politicians, business leaders, and now young people. Through TikTok and its algorithms, the Chinese Communist Party can manipulate what millions of young Americans see and don’t see.

Over the past year, TikTok has promoted pro-Hamas content, convinced many Americans that Osama bin Laden is a man worthy of admiration, and even prompted the House of Representatives to take action to protect Americans from the threat of TikTok. He forced the children to call members of Congress.

Our founding principles are the core of our national strength, and we need to leverage them to draw a sharp contrast between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. Under my leadership, the Chinese Communist Party Task Force will continue our bipartisan efforts to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its military, economic, and ideological aggression against the United States and our allies. This is a competition we must win.
