People are always fooled by urban legends. Until I was in my thirties, I believed silly things like it wasn’t illegal to turn on the dome lights while driving.

A recent online discussion asks for examples of the most ridiculous things people thought were real.

1. Babies don’t feel pain

It was believed that babies do not feel pain. One reader wrote, “I was born with a rare (about 1 in 250,000) bone disease in 1979. The idea that children don’t feel pain existed until the ’80s. I was a surgical guinea pig until about age 10. Tried to end his life at age 11. I have treatment-resistant major depression, severe anxiety, and PTSD. I really hate

2. Reposting and Forwarding on Social Media

We’ve all seen them. “I don’t allow Facebook to sell my photos.”

No matter how many people share or forward a thread, Facebook doesn’t start charging you for using the service.

3. The earth is flat

The ancient Greeks were able to understand that the earth is actually spherical. They calculated the diameter to a small percentage point. But modern conspiracy theorists still believe the earth is flat.

They often boast that they have followers all over the world. Hmm…

4. drug dealer

No matter what DARE and Nancy Reagan say, drug dealers don’t give free drugs to children. Additionally, they are not handed out as candy during Halloween.

People who do this are just wasting their money.

5. Marilyn Manson

The urban legend that Marilyn Manson had his ribs removed to act is one of the dumbest things many people believed when they were young.

I heard the rumor. I also heard this: ‘Marilyn Manson was Paul’ Wonder Years

6. The rain follows the plow

This belief was ubiquitous in the American West in the 1800s. The idea was to focus on farming, bringing rain and making farming a lot easier.

People believed that the soil would release moisture into the air when the grassland turned into cultivated land.

7. Reduced electricity bills

Companies like to sell customers devices that can plug into their home outlets with the promise of lower electricity bills. In reality, it’s just a snake oil scam.

8. Gift Card Fraud

If you’re asked to buy an Amazon gift card to pay taxes, you may be getting scammed.

The police will not come to arrest you. Scammers use scare strategies.

9. MLMs are small businesses

One person described his experience as follows:

“My sister is a college-educated accountant. She’s done: Mary Kay, Aloette, Herbalife, Melaleuca, Pampered Chef. She filed for bankruptcy once and is on the brink of bankruptcy again. She’s very smart, but she’s really stupid,” one user reported. A few people carried stories of friends from high school.

10. Energy Wristband

Believe it or not, plastic wristbands don’t give you energy. Salespeople may try theatrical tactics to convince you otherwise, but the benefits you get are just a placebo effect.

11. Wakanda is a real country

The nation of Wakanda became widely known in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of particular note is the black panther in 2018.

People were looking at maps and trying to find out where the country was in Africa. However, much like Agrabah and Gotham City, it would be disappointing to learn that it was fictional.

12. Alaska is an island

We’ve all seen maps of the United States with Hawaii and Alaska in close-up. Apparently, some people believe that both states are islands because the map shows no connection to the mainland United States.

Hawaii is a series of islands, but Alaska is deeply connected to North America.

13. Chocolate milk comes from brown cows

That’s natural, right? White milk comes from white cows. Logically, chocolate milk should be made from brown cows, and strawberry milk from pink cows.

If you’re wondering where these pink and brown cows are on the farm, there’s a reason you can’t find them. Color is created by adding chocolate and strawberry syrup.
