Worker Explains How She Found ‘Fake Job’ Listed on LinkedIn

Sometimes, if a job posting sounds too good, it usually does. Perhaps if there is a position that pays well and offers attractive perks, chances are good that others will too. So why is that position available for free?

But scammers know there are people desperate to get that dream job, and they’ve used job postings like Indeed to lure unsuspecting job seekers into long-form scams. I use the site often.

But a TikToker named Kayy (@twfhgrl) says he’s found an easy way to tell if a job is a scam. She also added that she almost never wastes time applying for a position, even if it seems iffy.

“This job is a scam. Watch it,” Kay says in the video. The camera then shifts to a screenshot of a job posting in Fresno, CA. This position is an opportunity for CodeUp’s full-time customer support her specialist.

But this TikToker starts to break down how I can understand that this gig is not a gig at all, but an attempt to screw people over.

“I mean CodeUp (underscore) I found on LinkedIn,” she says. “I thought all the girls in the chat were having trouble finding fake jobs. among.”

Kayy goes on to say in the video that this process of checking the authenticity of corporate identities isn’t too difficult or time consuming.

“Then I go to the careers section and look at all the job postings,” she says. “They’re all in Texas. But as you can see here, CodeUp_, this job is based in Fresno.”

Kayy concludes: “It took her two minutes to figure this out. A lot of people say, ‘How do you tell if the work is real or fake?’ However, I will not apply for anything that I am not sure about. So I thought I’d share this tidbit of information. You just have to do your research. ”

The Daily Dot reached out to CodeUp through a direct message on Instagram and Kayy through a comment on TikTok.

Viewers shared a unique way to verify that they are applying for a legitimate job posting: go directly to a company’s website and apply from there.

“It’s always best to apply through your business website, not Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.,” a user shared in the comments section.

Another commenter said job seekers are easily deceived on job boards because they are lazy despite their rights.

“Because they like to put everything on a silver platter,” they said. “A quick search is enough.”

One TikTok user said he was once tricked into applying for a bogus job because it seemed like a great opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“I applied for a dodgy job once, but it ended up being the highest paying job of my life and one of the best office cultures,” they claimed.

Another said they too had noticed a difference in location when applying for jobs online, saying, “Posts from location-specific organizations, such as within states in the United States, appear in remote locations in small provinces in Canada.” I’ve found a job offer,” he wrote. So sass!
