The idea that you need to be everywhere to be effective online is completely wrong. The key is to start with one platform, have a well-thought-out plan, and build from there.

There are two main ways to grow your following: either spend money and have someone do it for you, or invest the time and effort to do it yourself. These options are often referred to as debt or sweat.

Expanding your social media growth is difficult without someone to help you, but you can usually get started and start building momentum by taking action on your own.

Here, we’ll focus on the steps you need to take to stay focused and build momentum. These steps are detailed using the word “sweat” as an acronym.

S: Research your ideal client

All marketing efforts should start with identifying your ideal customer. Who do you want to work with? Who would benefit most from your experience and expertise? Your ideal client is a first-time homebuyer, an investor, or a homeowner in a particular community. Are you an owner? Once you’ve identified who your ideal customer is, you can start researching where they spend their time. This will give you a better understanding of which platforms to focus on to build your presence.

Which social media and video platforms you focus on should be based on what your ideal clients spend the most time on. If your client is a first-time homebuyer, chances are she’s spending most of her time on her TikTok or Instagram. More mature sellers or buyers may be on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Investors may be frequent users of LinkedIn and YouTube.

Take the time to find out which platforms your ideal clients spend their time on. Once you’ve identified which platforms to focus on, you can move on to the type of content your ideal clients will engage with.

W: Who are the winners in other markets?

The advantage of living in today’s world is that by researching agents in other markets who have built a following on the platform you want to grow, you can easily get a sense of the type of content that potential leads respond to. This will search for agents that can be used as case studies. If you’re looking for agents who are doing well on Instagram, you can find 23 of them here.

Once you’ve found a few agents who present themselves and their business in the way you want to model, visit their wall (homepage).[リール]Click the button and scroll down the wall to see the number of views and engagement for each reel. Identify the top 5-10 reels they posted and create content like them to highlight your market instead of theirs.

If YouTube is the platform you want to build on, you can find a list of video types with agent examples here. Once you’ve identified an agent on YouTube that you’d like to model your video on, go to that agent’s page and[ビデオ]Click on the tab. When the drop-down box appears, click on the popular tab. This will show you the most popular videos of this agent.

Again, create a video using the video you shot as a model. Copy their title and change their city to yours. Modeling what is already working for agents in other markets accelerates your time to success.

E: Escalate the activity

The next step is to increase the amount of activity you do on the target platform. This includes not only posting more, but also liking and commenting on the posts of others in your target market area. The most effective way to do this is the $1.80 Strategy, which Gary Vaynerchuk said is how he gained a wide following online.

The $1.80 principle states that you should contribute your “two cents,” otherwise known as comments, to 90 posts per day that are relevant to your area or your ideal customer. This may sound extreme, so consider doing it as large as possible.

I’ve done this myself by setting a goal of leaving 20 cents a day, or 10 comments on other people’s posts. Whatever level of commitment you are able to make, do it. Remember, the more you participate, the faster you will grow.

You can find posts to comment on by using hashtags and being active on local platforms where you have a large number of followers. For example, if you type #YourCity (whatever that is), you’ll see all recent posts using that hashtag. Use it to find content creators, local pages, or local businesses whose viewers are interacting with your page through questions and comments.

Add value by answering these questions or adding to your comments to become a resource. Following active members who comment and interact on these pages is also a great way to build an audience.

As you escalate your activity and become a resource, you will gain more followers.

A: Added value

The agent that adds the most value to the market will always end up being the agent that creates the most value in the market. What is your ideal prospect’s biggest pain point? Create this type of content to increase your visibility and increase your ideal customer’s trust.

Forget about making yourself feel and look good by letting people know you’re number one. Focus on giving them what they want, whatever it is.

We will answer frequently asked questions. Talk about programs that help first-time home buyers with closing costs or provide down payment assistance. If your ideal customer is a family with children, talk about local schools.

Whatever they are concerned about should be the focus of your content. When you focus on them, they notice you and your value in their eyes increases.

T: Please take a long view.

Success on social media is a process. Sure, you can make one post or video go viral, but true success is built by building a following that sees you as a local resource. This takes time. It takes consistency and commitment. But either way, time passes.

If you commit to being consistent from now through social media and video production, will your business be better in a year or three years? We believe it will be. This is not what I think could happen, but what I know could happen.

It took me 72 videos and 14 months to get my first 100 subscribers on YouTube. But now, just a few years later, he’s gaining more than 500 YouTube subscribers each month. If you look at the amount of time a viewer watches my videos each month, in real time, for every second he watches, he watches four seconds of my video.

Imagine how building a YouTube channel that delivers four seconds of marketing every second in real-time will change the trajectory of your business.

Social media and YouTube are marketing machines that can transform your current and future business in unimaginable ways. Now is the time to focus and build your presence in a way that attracts more of your ideal customers.
