Prague’s city center has a little bit of Christmas magic

There’s no better place to get into the holiday spirit than soaking up the festive atmosphere at Prague’s Christmas Markets. The Gothic building is bathed in lights and the delicious aroma of gingerbread and mulled wine fills the air, making you feel like you’re in a fairy tale.

Starting from the last week of November, one of Europe’s best Christmas markets takes place. Prague has several markets, but the most famous one is held in Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí).

Here you can find a gift for almost anyone. You can buy handmade soaps, wooden toys, glass ornaments, and even jams and spices. Or just come and admire the magical holiday atmosphere of the vibrant market.

If you’re visiting Prague in December, don’t miss the tree lighting ceremony in Old Town Square. Thousands of people fill the square, eagerly awaiting the lighting of the 75-foot tree to mark the first day of Advent.

However, Prague is a walkable city and you can easily walk to other Christmas markets in the city. A few minutes from Old Town Square is Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí), where you can also buy gifts and eat Czech food.

Wenceslas Square hosts a festive light show around the Christmas tree every night at 5pm. Traditional Czech music and millions of twinkling lights are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit.
