That One Sound is a column by internet culture reporter Charlotte Colombo that explores the origins of the popular sounds heard on TikTok.

We’re all guilty of holding on to something a little too old, but there’s a point when enough is enough.

As Peer Gynt’s “Morning Mood” plays in the background, a weak, nasally, slightly pathetic voice says, “Sorry, please help me, please kill me.”

On TikTok, this sound usually comes with something particularly aged. “Blanky” It’s just a lump of wool.be Laptop It’s literally hanging on a thread.and lots of old, unfriendly dog.

Generally speaking, the subjects of these videos are ridiculously dirty and old, literally begging to be put out of their misery, and I can kind of see why.

Where are you from?

While you could be forgiven for thinking that this sound came from a TV show or movie, its actual origins are a little stranger than that.

On September 4th, @skylardone posted a TikTok featuring a Trumpkin, a plastic Halloween pumpkin that bears a suspicious resemblance to the 45th President of the United States.

When he encountered Trumpkin at the supermarket, the creature said:I was turned into a pumpkin by perverse Hillary […] I’m only 14.99 years old. ”

Mercifully, Skyler buys a pumpkin and starts running him over with her car. Trumpkin repeated, “Thank you, please release your tender feelings.”

The video went pretty viral, racking up 4.3 million views, but the first part of the sound went viral on its own, appearing in over 26,000 videos. There are many old and unfriendly pets.
