Walmart employees Slideshow She chronicled her frustrations about working at a large supermarket, and many people completely sympathized with her frustrations.
The slideshow, created by Chicago-based TikTok user Kiya (@kiyaalatrice), was posted on Friday and had been viewed more than 1.2 million times by Monday morning.
In the caption, she writes, “What pisses me off is adults with no common sense!” She goes on to suggest that the people she meets while working at Walmart are part of the reason she’s ready to “quit.”
Walmart employees complain
First on her list are people asking why Walmart doesn’t accept Apple Pay — a common complaint among consumers and one that’s been covered by The Daily Dot in the past — which Kiya explains in an on-screen caption: “You won’t know I work here.”
She then advised anyone who tries to put cash into a self-checkout machine that clearly states it only accepts cards, “Why on earth would you put cash in there?”, adding: “Reading is key.”
And she offered a particularly nasty quip about someone asking if the register was open while she was standing at the register with the lights on, to which she sarcastically replied: “No, I’m just standing here in my ugly blue vest as decoration.”
She also advises customers attempting to steal from self-checkout registers to “stop making it clear you look at me,” and threatens to send the customer through the register after stopping the self-checkout transaction.
There were also complaints about people giving them extra change after entering a cash payment into the system, and people asking why the price on the shelf was different to the price displayed at the register.
Finally, she advises self-checkout patrons not to ask for bagging service: if you want that level of service, as the caption on the screen reads in capital letters, “Take Me to the Checkout!!!!”
According to Comparably, which evaluates employee satisfaction, Walmart is not doing well It’s especially good. The site states, “Walmart’s employee happiness ranks in the bottom 35% of companies its size on Comparably. Compensation is a key factor in employee happiness, with 52% of Walmart employees feeling fairly compensated, 58% satisfied with their benefits, and 55% satisfied with their stock/equity. 62% of Walmart employees feel they have a good work environment, meaning Walmart is a great place to work.”
The audience is on her side
Those who viewed the slideshow offered several thoughts.
On Kiya’s last point, someone commented, “No good going to the self checkout and asking someone to bag and scan it for you because it’s a lot of work.”
Another said: “These are all honestly valid.”
“Just bag the fries,” commented another, citing a similar customer service setting.
