American Airlines distributed an amenity kit to customer Meredith Dean (@merenator) after her checked baggage was lost. On Sunday, June 23, Dean posted a TikTok showing the contents of the kit: broken deodorant, razor, shaving cream, hand and body lotion, comb/brush, and a freshening towelette.

All products are travel size.

In the video, Dean says there is no shampoo, conditioner or tampons in the little bag.

There was, however, a small apology card that said, “We sincerely apologize for the delay to your luggage. Please be assured that we are doing all we can to retrieve your luggage and return it to you as soon as possible. We understand the inconvenience this delay has caused and we hope that the contents of this amenity kit will be of help to you.”

“If you’re really struggling, this kind of stuff helps,” one viewer commented on Dean’s TikTok.

Still, many commenters expressed similar concerns to Dean about the kit’s contents.

“Looks like a man bag,” one viewer commented. “It should at least have tampons in it.”

Some suggested American Airlines also offer clothing and full-size products.

“All of this would have been in my carry-on anyway,” one viewer wrote.

What’s in the American Airlines kit?

“I work in a prison,” another viewer commented. “That’s the same toothbrushes and toothpaste they give to inmates.”

Among all airlines, the American Airlines network had the most mishandled bags in 2024, according to the Department of Transportation’s monthly report. Air Travel Consumer Report.

“This reaction to a lost bag proves they lose bags way too often,” one viewer commented on Dean’s TikTok.

by American Airlines official policy For delayed or lost baggage, airlines will reimburse customers for “reasonable and necessary items” needed while their baggage is missing, if the customer submits the information within 30 days of the delay.

“If your luggage is not found, a cost refund will be deducted from the final settlement amount,” the website states.

Despite this clear policy, some American Airlines customers commented that they received no amenity kits or compensation when the airline lost their luggage.

“My package was lost and I couldn’t get it back for a month and they didn’t give me anything,” one customer said.

“They gave me nothing and [bag] “Sent to the wrong state,” another wrote. “Took weeks to arrive.”

Meanwhile, TikTok user Hannah Ackman (@hcackman) said that both times American Airlines lost her luggage at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York City, employees told her the airline would compensate her if she bought necessities like pajamas and toiletries.

“We sent them the receipts and they gave us the money,” Ackman said.

American Airlines did not immediately respond to The Daily Dot’s request for comment.

“American Airlines is great until something goes wrong, and then it’s pretty bad. [expletive]” one viewer commented.

“I actually love American Airlines,” Dean wrote in the TikTok caption, “#vacationgonewrong,” adding, “I got my luggage back within 24 hours.”
