Beijing — a niche web browser opera Opera’s parent company plans to integrate ChatGPT into their products. Kunlun Tech announced on Wednesday.

No details were shared about timing or whether the feature will be available across all Opera products, including desktop and mobile browsers for iOS and Android.

The news looks like microsoft and Google announced this week plans to incorporate artificial intelligence chatbot technology into its own search engine. Developed by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, ChatGPT has skyrocketed in popularity since its release in late November.

Google’s Chrome browser has the world’s largest market share at 65.4%, according to January Statcounter data, while Microsoft’s Edge browser has a 4.5% share.

Data shows that Opera ranks sixth in the global browser market with a 2.4% share.

Norway-based Opera, which also operates a gaming-focused browser, averaged 321 million monthly active users in the third quarter. The company said its gaming browser business boosted revenue in the third quarter, up 28% year-over-year to $85.3 million.

The parent company Kunlun Tech is based in Beijing and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. The company announced in December that it would open source a suite of AI-generated content, including music and images.

Kunlun Tech’s stock is up more than 40% over the year so far. Nasdaq-listed Opera shares have risen over 10% over the period.

Many companies are rushing to announce work on products like ChatGPT.

Chinese tech giant Baidu said this week it will likely complete internal testing of its own artificially intelligent chatbot in March before rolling out the product to the public.

Alibaba is also working on a ChatGPT rival, but hasn’t said when.

It’s not clear how these new AI features compare to those of ChatGPT.

According to Statcounter, when it comes to mobile search, Google has a whopping 96.5% share of the global market, while Baidu comes in second with a 0.7% share.
