After former President Trump announced that he had chosen Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate in the November election, speculation quickly began about who would replace Vance in the Senate.

Vance will be elected to the Senate in 2022 and won’t be up for reelection until 2028. But if he and Trump win and he becomes vice president, Ohio’s Republican governor, Mike DeWine, would be tasked with appointing his replacement.

“Anyone else wanting to see @VivekGRamaswamy fill JD Vance’s Senate seat?” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, asked in X’s post.

“I am confident that JD will be an excellent vice president for President Trump,” Ramaswami said in a statement released by his spokesman.

“The only downside would be losing one of the Senate’s finest warriors. If asked to serve, I would seriously consider the position and discuss with President Trump what path makes the most sense for our country,” he continued.

But getting DeWine to appoint Ramaswami may be difficult because DeWine is a moderate Republican compared to Ramaswami’s “America First” conservatism.

Governor DeWine’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital for comment.

In an interview with Fox News Digital on Monday, Ramaswami praised Vance for being selected as President Trump’s running mate.

“I think he’s going to attract a lot of people who are looking for economic mobility in the country, and I think he’s going to attract a lot of people who aren’t traditional Republicans,” he said.
