Sean O’Malley’s first title defense was against a familiar foe, but this time there will be no controversy or shocking ending. O’Malley defeated Marlon “Tito” Vera in the main event of UFC 299 to retain the bantamweight title. The judges’ scorecards read 50-45, 50-45, 50-44.

O’Malley took full advantage of Vera’s ability to take strikes and dominated the first three rounds. O’Malley delivered a picture-perfect knee to Berra’s jaw and numerous other punches that left Berra’s face bleeding. Vera tried to overcome the speed difference but struggled to create impactful attacks against the champion.

The fourth round was a solid round for Vera, with blood coming from O’Malley’s nose. Still, O’Malley landed at will, and Berra continued to do his best to withstand significant blows. The fifth race was a hectic one, but once again O’Malley got the best of Berra.

After the fight, O’Malley said he would like to fight UFC featherweight champion Ilya Topria.

Ahead of the main event, Dustin Poirier retained his lightweight status with a second-round knockout of promising newcomer Benoit St. Denis, while Michael “Venom” Page made his UFC debut with a decision win over Kevin Holland. Jacques Della Maddalena won by KO. Gilbert Burns and Petr Yan made strides in the final two rounds to stop Song Yadong’s top ranking.

Here’s how all the UFC 299 matches played out in Miami.
