One of the major problems with the US government is that we have no way of knowing exactly what the government is doing. Over a billion federal documents (billion!) have been declared classified. In other words, you and all other ordinary American citizens who do not work for the government have these documents off-limits. Despite the fact that they are yours, you are not allowed to see them. Under a Biden administration, we no longer even bother to do that. No, the whole point of the system is to take power away from voters and their elected officials and hand that power over to Washington’s permanent bureaucracy. It’s maddening and dangerous over time. But only this time I can report a meaningful backlash against this regime of secrecy and deceit.
