US President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday and said he plans to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
“I’m talking to President Putin on Tuesday. There was a lot of work done over the weekend,” Trump told Air Force 1 reporters during a late flight from Florida to the Washington area.
“We want to see if we can end that war. We may not be able to do so, but I think we have a very good opportunity,” Trump said.
Trump is trying to win Putin’s support for the 30-day ceasefire proposal that Ukraine accepted last week.
“We’re talking about the land. We’re talking about the power plants,” Trump said when asked about the concessions. “I think there’s already a lot of discussion between both Ukraine and Russia. We’re splitting certain assets and already talking about it.”
