President-elect Trump has nominated Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera as ambassador to Panama.
President Trump called the Miami-Dade County Commissioner a “fierce warrior” and said he would push a “MAGA agenda” against the Central American country.
“Kevin is a fierce fighter for America First,” President Trump said in a statement Wednesday. “Kevin is a fierce fighter for America First. As Miami-Dade County Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the International Trade Consortium, he was instrumental in driving economic growth and fostering international partnerships. ” he said. “In 2020, Kevin did a great job as Florida State Director and this year advanced the MAGA agenda as a member of the RNC Platform Committee.”
“There are few people who understand Latin American politics like Kevin. He will do a great job representing our country’s interests in Panama!” he said.

The announcement came after President Trump said of Panama, “This is a country that’s stealing from us in the Panama Canal, and it’s far more than they ever imagined.”
President Trump also said in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday that he operates the canal illegally and that he is “constantly making sure the U.S. puts in billions of dollars in ‘repair’ funds, but that ‘something’… “I have no intention of saying anything at all,” he said, criticizing the Chinese soldiers. ”
Cabrera thanked Trump for his nomination in a statement on X.

“I am humbled and honored to have you appointed as U.S. Ambassador to Panama,” he wrote. “Let’s get to work!”
Mr. Cabrera won the county election two years ago with support from Mr. Trump.

He also served as the Florida state director for Trump’s 2020 campaign and was a member of the RNC platform committee.
