Tiffany Haddish spoke with Extra’s Terri Seymour about her new book, I Curse You with Joy, which reveals her personal ups and downs.
Tiffany reveals all in the book about everything from sobriety to singlehood.
Speaking about embracing single life, she told Terry: “I haven’t stopped dating, I’m just not having sex. I just love eating out.”
Terry said, “You’ve been very open about your sobriety. How has your journey been?” “It’s going pretty well,” Haddish said.
Tiffany spoke about her very personal book and how comedy has helped her.
“My career as a comedian has definitely helped me to be vulnerable. In comedy, you have to have a certain amount of vulnerability. Your mission is to tickle people’s hearts, right? But sometimes you have to warm them up. You hit them with hard things and funny things. You take them on a journey.”
On the pages of “I Curse You with Joy,” Tiffany makes everything public, including an abusive relationship with her sick mother that ultimately led to her and her siblings being placed in foster care.
Terry asked if this has affected the way she loves or receives love, to which Tiffany replied, “Probably. You know, we’re still working through this through therapy. It’s definitely affected the way I give love and receive love.”
Then, at age 25, Tiffany found herself homeless and living in her car, and Seymour asked her what she would tell her younger self.
“I think it’s brighter on the other side,” Haddish added. “And it’s okay to ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
Haddish has had some legal troubles recently, having been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in November of last year. She reportedly pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor and the DUI charge was dropped.
She told Terry: “I don’t drink. I’m never drinking again unless I get engaged and I get to show you how crazy I am for just one day.”
The star continued, “I don’t want to do it because it feels good when I wake up in the morning and my elbows aren’t sore, my knees aren’t burning, my ankles aren’t burning. There’s no inflammation.”
