As a busy mother of three, Jennifer Garner knows that mornings don’t always go as planned. In fact, she is prepared for the unexpected. For example, “I was trying to oversleep last night, and my girlfriend’s son woke me up and said, ‘Mommy, the dog ate the lenses of my sunglasses!'” Garner tells SELF with a laugh. “So I had to get up and call the vet and take care of the dog.”
Parenting can be hectic, so this actor cherishes the start of the day. Several It’s some kind of structure. We’ll get into her full routine later, but there’s one thing she’s particular about. It’s about keeping her skincare routine consistent, especially sunscreen.
“I’ve always been very good at wearing it,” Garner says. “I was lucky in a way because I was such a theater nerd that I spent my summers on sets.” But despite her dedication, she recently noticed a tan on her face. She admits that she focuses on prioritizing SPF. That’s one of the many reasons she’s partnering with Neutrogena (as her longtime spokesperson) for Skin Cancer Awareness Month this May, highlighting the importance of protecting yourself from UV damage. It’s for emphasis.
“I always said, ‘Oh, all the sun I’ve been exposed to, I really don’t get any sun. My skin is like magic.’ But then one day I woke up and realized that all the sun damage had gone overnight. It just shows up! It’s been quietly building up,” Garner says, pointing to her jawline. “I’ve started to see some discoloration here and on the top. [under her cheekbones]I also had melasma, but it had nothing to do with hormones. ”

Relatively speaking, I’m much lazier than I was when my kids were little. But emotionally…
Morning training and cardio. She wakes up around 5am, but she probably ends up dozing off until 5:15. I come downstairs, have a little coffee, let the dog out, feed the cat, things like that. Then I go upstairs and train. Ideally you would. limit [which offers dance, HIIT, and toning sessions] I will be taking classes and doing private sessions over Zoom from New York.
I love feeling like I’ve really challenged my body in the morning, and that’s how I usually start my day unless I make a decision not to. But even if in my head I’m like, “I’m going to work out,” if I don’t for some reason I feel like I’m going to work out, then automatically I feel depressed for the rest of the day.
Even though my kids are grown, I still love waking them up myself.
They are The usual Whether you’re 18 or 15, it’s warm and cuddly. So I go to their bedroom and wake them up. One of them is always late so I feed her on the way to her bus. And my son, who is an early riser, goes downstairs and hangs out with me for a while. Then I drive them to school or the bus. Just this morning we were listening to [Stephen] Sondheim in the car.
