To celebrate Christmas, Nationals fans create a list of things they want under the tree for 2025. There haven’t been many giveaways since the Nationals got the ultimate gift of a World Series title in 2019. But Santa Claus may be returning to Washington, D.C. this year.
The first item on my wish list is a power bat. Mike Rizzo gave Nationals fans a first baseman in Nathaniel Rowe, but he’s not a 30-homer player. The Nationals still need one more bat. The Christmas miracle would be signing Anthony Santander. Oriole hit after a long time 44 home runs Last year would give the Nats an elite power threat. The 30-year-old is an option to play both in the outfield and at DH. If Rizzo wants to go in a different direction, or if ownership wants to become the Grinch, there are some cheaper options. Former Nationals Josh Bell and Jesse Winker are logical players and won’t cost much money.
The second item on the list would be the breakthrough of James Wood. No young Nationals player has yet made the leap to superstardom. In my opinion, James Wood has the best chance of doing that. Wood has all the traits to be a superstar at the plate. he already patient batterand when he made contact, the ball flew off the bat. Wood experienced major league action for the first time. 120wRC+Even though there is a lot of room for improvement. If Santa can teach Wood to put the ball in the air more, we’ll have a superstar on our hands. He has the raw power to be a 40 home run hitter and the bat discipline to record a high on-base percentage. The 22-year-old has plenty of time to put everything together, but he hopes it happens this season.
The third item on the wishlist is bullpen help. The Nats’ bullpen was thin, but that was before they traded away Robert Garcia. The bullpen is in dire need of reinforcements right now. After trading Garcia away, one would think Rizzo would have something in store to improve the bullpen. The best reliever to become a free agent is Tanner Scott, and he’s still on the market. Rizzo could continue down that path or bring in some cheaper options. Jose Leclerc is a name that caught my eye and he is still available.
my last wish is Mackenzie Gore To wrap everything up at the end. There’s no way he can leave Gore as a top candidate in the rotation. While he may not be a future No. 1, he still has all the makings of a No. 2 starter. he has everything thing In the world, he just needs to hold everything together. After a strong start, Gore hit a wall, which has become a familiar pattern for him. But after a tough few months, things turned around in the final six weeks or so of the season. He managed to post a 4.90 ERA. Gore pitched a career-high 166.1 innings. His great performance down the stretch gave me hope that he still has the ability to be a high-end starter.
