On Thursday, Taraji P. Henson was named host of the Time 100 Gala in New York.
Extra’s Tommy Didario sat down with Taraji to reflect on the icon’s inclusion on the list of 2024’s Most Influential People.
She exclaimed, “Mom, I really did it!”

Billy Porter had a similar reaction, saying: “I’m not surprised at all. We’ve got work to do.”
Tommy also spoke about the news with activist and business owner Tarana Burke, who founded the Me Too movement in 2006. she said: “There is little shock…This is a wake-up call to our justice system, which has historically never stood up for survivors. It wasn’t by any means, but I’m not completely surprised.”
“We don’t know what the outcome will be…the real victory lies with the survivors who stand up and break their silence,” she continued. It will happen… That’s why we have time… We can come together and say we are not against this. ”
The Honorable E. Jean Carroll also commented on the news. She said, “Our world is turned upside down. Just when we thought we were making progress and women’s voices were finally being heard, the boom is gone and we’re down again.”
Her advice to victims is: “Don’t let trauma get in the way of justice.”
Earlier in the day, Weinstein’s rape conviction came after the judge who presided over the case in 2020 “wrongly admitted testimony about alleged past sexual acts against someone other than the accuser of the underlying crime.” This was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals. ”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg plans to retry the famous film producer.
Despite the shocking reversal, Weinstein is not a free man.
In 2022, Weinstein was found guilty in Los Angeles on three counts of rape and sexual assault, and acquitted on one other count. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on three of her other cases.
Mr. Weinstein will now be extradited to Los Angeles, where he will serve a 16-year prison sentence.
For years, Weinstein has vehemently denied the allegations against him and maintained that all sexual activity he engaged in was consensual.
