A barista appeared on the platform to provide an educational moment for viewers trying to order drinks in a certain way without being familiar with how they affect them.

In the video, Anthony (@goofyychiwah) does the imitation. client Some people order the caramel macchiato “upside down,” but TikToker says it’s really just a vanilla latte with a drizzle of caramel.

The video shows a virtual conversation between a barista and a customer who wants to order a drink, with Anthony playing both. The employee relays the similarities between the customer’s desired drink and another drink that is actually on the menu with caramel her syrup added.

Customers in this hypothetical scenario would be less responsive to this information.

“A caramel macchiato upside down is basically a vanilla latte with a drizzle of caramel,” a barista tells a customer.

The Daily Dot reached out to Anthony via Instagram direct message about the video, as well as to Starbucks via email.

Viewers, some of whom were baristas themselves, voiced their dissatisfaction with the trend, which mostly originated on TikTok and is permeating coffee shops.

“If you don’t understand the concept of don’t order food or drink upside down, you’ll be confused,” wrote one commenter.

“At the moment I just want to put my order on the sticker so I can take a picture,” another user claimed.

“I told my colleague that this was all the pretentious nonsense,” another user shared. “She was amazed. She had no idea it was all there.”

Some have written that ordering drinks this way has several advantages for customers.

“Okay, but to be fair, it’s cheaper to order as a caramel macchiato, and it’s easier to call and order (laughs),” claimed one viewer.

“Not as much vanilla as a caramel macchiato,” wrote another commenter.

“But vanilla syrup is already added, so it’s no big deal (laughs),” added the third person.
