Greg Gumbel, brother of legendary sportscaster Bryant Gumbel, dies at 78, CBS News report.
His wife Marcy and daughter Michelle told CBS: He passed away peacefully surrounded by so much love after a brave battle with cancer. Greg approached his illness as one would expect: with stoicism, grace, and positivity. ”
The statement continued: “He leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration and dedication for over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcasting industry, and his iconic voice will never be forgotten. Greg’s His memories will be forever cherished by his family, dear friends, colleagues and all who loved him.”

Gumbel worked as a sportscaster for CBS Sports and NBC Sports. During his career, he announced the Super Bowl and the Olympics.
“The CBS Sports family is shocked by the passing of Greg Gumbel,” CBS Sports President and CEO David Berson told CBS News. He was loved and respected by all of us who were honored to call him a friend and colleague.”
Mr. Berson described his career as “groundbreaking” and called him “an incredible broadcaster and talented storyteller.”
“He was a familiar and welcoming voice to fans of many sports, including the NFL and March Madness, highlighted by the Super Bowl and Final Four,” Berson said.
He continued, “Greg broke barriers and set a standard for others to follow. This is a very sad day for all of us at CBS Sports and the entire sports community. We mourn Greg’s death with great sadness. He will be greatly missed and our deepest condolences go out to his wife Marcy, daughter Michelle, and his entire family.”
