Caltrans will close major corridors in the East Bay this weekend for resurfacing work.
The department said southbound I-680 will be closed between 9 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Monday between the I-580 and I-680 junction in Pleasanton and Copeman Road in Sunol. It is expected to be completely closed to traffic.
Caltrans says this is the latest part of a long-term project to replace deteriorating pavement on Interstate 680 in the Tri-Valley region.
The complete weekend closure will be the last scheduled closure of southbound Interstate 680 in the area. However, CalTrans says highway construction will continue throughout the year during nighttime lane closures.
More complete weekend closures of southbound Interstate 680 in San Ramon are expected later this year, the agency said.
Northbound I-680 remains open and is not affected by this weekend’s closure.
