Worcester, Ohio — For Rita Dush, a Christmas tree means a lot.
Dash, owner of Worcester’s Pine Tree Barn, said:
The barn has a list of different types of trees that take a long time to grow. “Usually it takes about eight years to harvest,” says Brad Moore, nursery manager at Pine Tree Farm.
Choosing the perfect tree also takes time. Once the customer has chosen, the pine is cut off, the pine is shaken and wrapped, and taken home. The tree may last a month or two, but the joy lasts forever.
“It’s the spirit of Christmas. You make the family happy. The little ones look happy,” Moore said.
It’s not just great experiences and memories that last for our customers. For Dush, the Pine Tree Barn has a deeper meaning.
She lost her husband two years ago today. Roger and Rita built a pine tree from the roots of Yultide Tree Farm, Roger’s family farm, 40 years ago. They never expected it to be as big as it is today, but they made a promise to each other.
“I knew we couldn’t live forever, so I wanted to keep either farm going. So I’m still doing it. I am him and he is here.” I’m sure he would still be doing it if he were in Japan.
So every smile she sees on the farm brings her joy.
“It’s great, especially with the little ones. It’s really great, they’re smiling, happy and energetic,” says Dush.
Rita sees eight years of work with Roger by her side come to life.
“It gives me a reason to exist. I miss him,” she said.
