The Mississippi State Fairgrounds has announced a lineup of musical entertainment for the 2023 Mississippi State Fair festival this year.
The 164th Annual State Fair will open this year on Thursday, October 5th and will run through Sunday, October 15th. These dates are similar to last year’s, which was held from October 6th to 16th.
Some of the daily venue favorites have left, like Dave the Rattlesnake, who announced his retirement last year, but rest assured there are new daily staples. If you’re into music, this fair, headlined by The Commodores, covers just about every genre.
Entertainment lineup:
Josh Turner
- This performance is part of his “Long Black Train 20”.th Anniversary Tour” His opening act is Mississippi native and “The Voice” winner Todd Tillman.

- A special dance concert featuring R&B vocalist Cupid.

walker wilson
- The Mississippi native will open for country music artist ERNEST.

Rita Brent
- The comedian will be performing a comedy show alongside JJ Williamson, Carwyn Claiborne, Marvin Hunter and DJ Koolaid.
- when: Friday, October 13th
Commodores
- The R&B group formed in Tuskegee, Alabama in the 1960s. Lionel Richie hasn’t headlined the group for years, but expect a string of classic hits from them, from “Nightshift” to “Brick House.” They follow the opening act, Four Washington.
- when: Saturday, October 14th
Jeremy Camp
- The Christian solo artist will close out the fair with a performance featuring Mississippi native Kayla Berry at the opener.

The Mississippi State Fair will also host a talent contest for “American Idol” singers. The top 40 performers will showcase their talents in the competition. Competition begins October 9 inside the Mississippi Coliseum.
The top 20 finalists will advance to the final performance on October 10th at 6:00 pm, where the top 5 will be selected. The final 5 contestants will have a chance to win the VIP Executive Producer Audition.
To participate, your application and video must be received by the September 1st deadline.
