Samsung has traditionally favored a circular design for its Galaxy Watch series, but it looks like that may change soon. According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung is considering deviating from the usual approach and introducing his Galaxy Watch in a rectangular shape.

Samsung initially entered the smartwatch market with a rectangular design. In 2013, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch was introduced with a 1.6-inch rectangular display. Samsung then continued the rectangular form factor by releasing the Gear 2 and Gear Live.

But in recent years, the company has shifted its focus to circular smartwatches and continues to improve its design.

However, the latest reports suggest that Samsung’s smartwatch may return to a rectangular shape. SamMobile’s report suggests that the idea is being actively considered internally and that a switch is likely to be made.

It remains unclear whether this change will be introduced in the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 or in subsequent versions. Incorporating such significant changes will no doubt require time for both hardware and software improvements.

Rectangular displays offer more usable screen real estate, as opposed to circular screens where content is often cropped at the edges. This improves the visibility and usability of notifications, and makes them easier to navigate with other user interface elements.

In the latest quarter, Apple emerged as the leader in the global smartwatch market, capturing more than 22% of the market share. This is closely followed by Fire-Boltt, which secures second place with a market share of 10%, while Huawei maintains third place with his 9%.

Surprisingly, Samsung dropped out of the top brands despite holding the second position since Q3 2021. These prominent players in the global smartwatch market have integrated cutting-edge technologies such as health and fitness tracking features to enable consumers to monitor their health status. This attractive product has fueled their success and contributed to the overall growth of the global market.
