Soap opera veteran Ron Hale has died at the age of 78, six years after announcing his retirement.

Hale was born on January 2, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended Furman University in South Carolina and discovered his love for acting. He appeared in plays at the Trastas Theater in Colombia.
After making her television debut in a 1968 episode of “NYPD,” she made her first foray into soaps in “Search for Tomorrow” (1969).
He starred in the classic film The President’s Men (1976) and went on to have a long and successful career as Dr. Roger Coleridge in Ryan’s Hope (1975-1989). He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1979 and 1980 for his work on the show.

Hale had longer roles as Mike Corbin on General Hospital (1995-2010) and Port Charles (1997-2000).
His other television credits include “Matlock” (1989), “MacGyver” (1990) and “Easy” (2016). His last acting role was in the 2017 film The Ghost and the Whale, which also included the last on-screen performance of Hitchcock lead actress Tippi Hedren.
Hale said in 2018: Soap details He officially retired from business.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
