The days when industry stuntmen were labelled “unnamed heroes” in filmmaking are gone. The choreography of action in Hollywood has been more refined over the years, but the brave behind the scenes have long been unrecognised. Whether it was advertising, mayhem, collisions, high dives, or car destruction, movie fans all over the world couldn’t get enough of it.
The appeal of Hollywood’s big name solidified the need for stuntmen who remained behind the curtains but enhanced the action of celluloid. While providing visual treats through stunts has become an important aspect of filmmaking, the brave stuntman community played a key role in chasing actors into massive stardom. It was a time when stuntmen were paid for in the industry, and the conversations incited by the stunt-centered blockbuster The Fall Guy has attracted a lot of attention.
At the 96th Oscars held in March this year, the fall man cast, including Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, paid tribute to the industry’s greatest stunt performers of all time. Since debate about introducing stunt categories at the academy gained momentum. Now, it has been confirmed that the plan is in motion.
The Academy Awards have added a new action-packed category to its list, with the first awards in this category coming out at the 100th annual ceremony in 2028. “Sint design has been an integral part of filmmaking since the early days of films.” “We are proud to celebrate these technical and creative artists’ innovative work, and we celebrate their commitment and dedication to reach this important opportunity.”
The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15th, 2026, with Conan O’Brien returning as a host for the second year in a row.
