Over 700 vineyards are located within a two-hour drive Cape TownDeciding which to visit can bring challenges. Fortunately, the property closest to the Cape Town airport is a destination in itself. After two visits, it’s time to share this hidden gem.

Pass through the gate VergenoegdLöw It leaves behind life stress and evokes obvious expectations of accepting excitement for the future. Following the signs to the hotel, the sliding gates open forward, and the porters are ready to greet you in the car and assist with your luggage. At the hotel reception, the staff continued to be a warm welcome and provided refreshing towels to help you cool off.
After completing the required documents, we were escorted to a golf cart, and our journey began and meandered through the property. Passing the hotel and the owner’s villa, we spotted a line of whitewashed Cape Dutch-style cottages that would become our home for the next three days, along with a herd of Dexter cows grazing in the fields.

The estate features six freestanding, two-bedroom cottages and walking in the front was a fun experience. Stepping inside, we were welcoming to the lounge with a wood fireplace and dining table. As a continuation of the warm welcome, our porters poured us a classic cap. This is often offered at hotel receptions. There, you may feel pressured to complete it right away, but when served in the lounge, it felt both smart and homely.
Two identical bedrooms extend outside from the central lounge. Both have attractive and comfortable king beds.
The outdoor space is designed to be effortlessly designed for relaxation. A generously sized heating pool invites a lounge, while an outdoor shower offers both warm and cold water after a swim. Secluded from other farms, the cottage has a quiet environment surrounded by well-maintained gardens, with the mountains of Stellenbosch in the distance.
Vergenoegd Löw also offers a beautiful boutique farm lodge that we stayed during our first visit. Each of the deluxe lodge rooms is spacious 40m², with its own private deck with a jacuzzi and outdoor furniture, and all farm facilities are within walking distance.
Finally, the stunning owner’s villa is available for selective stays, a modern, custom designed home with six private bathrooms. The courtyard features four vineyard suites, each with its own heated pool that can also be rented for friends and family who are looking for isolation. There are also quite a few impressive presidents. Favorite for wedding couples!

Back at our luxurious cottage, both bedrooms lead to a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a freestanding bathtub. As a frequent traveler South AfricaI’m always interested in the amenities offered – and I sighed at Vergenoegdlöw when I found the familiar healing earth label, a premium African spa brand.

Vergenoegdlöw could not be more conveniently located. It is the closest property to CapeTown’s airport, just 20 minutes’ drive away. The city itself is only twice its distance, and although it is undoubtedly untouched, the property still embodies the spirit of Wineland, giving it a sense of escape from the stoic of civilization. Some of the accommodations may be new, but the farm’s history dates back to the early days of the Cape.
One notable example is the story of Yan Brandes, a Dutch Lutheran pastor and artist who visited the farm in 1786 and created an extensive painting of both the building and botany. Some of his works have been featured in the famous Richesmuthum in Amsterdam, with copies displayed in Clara’s barn.

With so many activities offered at Vergenoegd Löw you really don’t want to leave. This means you can indulge in three culinary options on the farm. Firstly, Clara’s barn is firmly located in my top 4 South African restaurants. This perfectly hits the mark of a fine dining restaurant and offers pure Epicurean ecstasy to breathtaking interiors from the 11 course offering.
Secondly, in the farm’s central courtyard (and beautiful indoor rooms), casual meals are served at noon in the Göwölls at morning and noon. Hotel guests enjoy breakfast here. It features delicious South African twists like the full “Die Soutie” breakfast and “Regmakertjie” for those suffering from last night’s dul.
Finally, you can enjoy the unadorned pleasure delivered to your door in your bed, whether it’s an indoor meal, in the pool, in the dining room or even my favorite! There’s little I enjoy more than sinking my teeth into a burger in my bed while watching the latest Netflix products.
Then perhaps the best thing to save on perhaps the last one naturally offers Vergenoegdlöw. We had a bit of time with the charming winemaker Vusi Dalicuba, who passed through the wine. Vusi Dalicuba has been at the helm since 2021 and previously worked in several well-known wineries. In a world where there are still few Xhosa winemakers, he made his mark very proudly.
From incredibly fresh tropical and sauvignon blancs to beautifully fruity wooden balanced Chardonnay, light but elegant Shiraz to captivating cool climate Cabernet. The wine is enjoyed indigenous tastings in the veranda of the Manor House and in the super stylish rooms. They are served with many favorite South African nibbles rather than dictating the pairings you have left to explore your own delicious flavour combinations.
Other nice touches
In addition to paintings and paintings, the estate also boasts an impressive collection of sculptures. Art Walk is a self-guided or lead tour that incorporates outstanding works, including some of the well-known South African artists Dylan Lewis and Manuela Holzer.
Walking the tour will allow you to pass through the quiet surroundings of the lake. As the property runs through the property, there is endless water from the canal that maintains gardens and vineyards. Next up the walk is the calm Valentina chapel, with up to 120 people sitting for weddings and important ceremonies. The best bit
When you mention the name of a farm, you often hear something along the line: “Oh, farm with ducks!” The adorable Indian runner duck has become farm mascots – a staggering thousands of people can call the farm home and march elegantly across the lawn twice a day.
Final Verdict
After all, I see why I use word destinations to explain vergenoegdlöw – If you think it’s about wine tastings and ducks, they’re missing out. After two stays, the farm already feels like home. It is close to Cape Town itself.
