Construction woes are expected to continue through the second half of the week in the eastern metropolitan area, with the Minnesota Department of Transportation announcing more ramp closures to begin Wednesday morning.

The closure is part of an ongoing paving project on I-94 lanes and on- and off-ramps between Oakdale and the St. Croix River.

Crews will close the interchange ramps at I-494 and Tamarack Road beginning at 7 a.m. The closures are expected to last until late October.

Drivers can take Tamarack Road to Weir Drive, then Valley Creek Road, then head south on I-494.

Meanwhile, northbound drivers can detour around the closure by using Valley Creek Road, Bielenberg Drive and Tamarack Road.

These closures are a precursor to additional closures beginning Friday evening.

Starting at 7 p.m. through early July, two ramps will be closed: from westbound I-94 to northbound I-694 and from southbound I-694 to westbound I-94. However, there will be a green light at the end of the tunnel. MnDOT says crews will simultaneously reopen the ramps from westbound I-94 to southbound I-494 and from northbound I-494 to westbound I-94.

As 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS previously reported, MnDOT also announced that the following ramps will be closed after Memorial Day to complete repaving work in Lakeland:

  • Beginning at 5 a.m. Thursday, May 30, the ramps from westbound I-94 to Highway 95 will be open through the end of June.
  • The ramp from Highway 95/St. Croix Trail to eastbound I-94 will open from 5 a.m. Friday, May 31 through the end of June.
