Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that it would be foolish to dismiss President Donald Trump’s desire for control of Greenland.
Putting a massive speech in Russia’s largest city north of the Arctic Circle, Russia’s largest city, Russia, Putin said Thursday that Trump said he had said on the annexation into Greenland.
“It’s a deep mistake to treat it as some stupid story by the new US administration. There’s nothing.” I said.
He added that the United States had such plans “going back to the 1860s,” and flagged it as offering to buy Greenland from Denmark after World War II.
“In short, the US has serious plans for Greenland. These plans, as I said, have long historical roots and it is clear that the US will continue to consistently advance the geostrategic, military-political and economic interests of the Arctic,” Putin said.
His comments, which were not critical of Trump’s intentions, come as US Vice President JD Vance Preparing to lead a famous US delegation To Greenland on Friday.
Vance said in the video Posted Earlier this week, he joined his wife Usha Vance on social media platform X to “check out what’s going on with security” in Greenland.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to control his autonomous Danish territory, describing his prospects as “an absolute necessity” for national security-related purposes.
Both Greenland and Denmark’s governments have expressed solid opposition to Trump’s plans, with Greenland’s resignation prime minister Mute Egede said earlier this month, “Don’t keep treating us rudely. That’s enough.”
