Companies are constantly innovating and redesigning packaging to improve performance, increase marketability and strengthen sustainability. Here are four new or redesigned packaging solutions that Packaging Dive is watching.

It’s in a can

The tea maker Twinings recently launched a new product called Twinings The Latte. Paper-based cans(also known as rigid paper containers.) Sonoco’s EnviroCan is made with 80% recycled fibers and water-based inks and adhesives and is recyclable, the packaging company said in a news release.

According to Sonoco, this RPC Oxygen and moisture barrier Designed with food safety and shelf life in mind, it is lighter than a metal can of the same size and the company says the product can be manufactured with plastic, paper or metal can tops.

Twinings launched “The Latte” in France in May.

Black Cow Vodka Launches New Product Gift Box The product was designed to resemble a traditional milk carton to celebrate the drink being made from milk, and the carton is recyclable, according to a press release from exclusive distributor Molson Coors.

The company has placed the concept of zero waste at the heart of its business strategy. Using Whey The distillation process used to make vodka removes lactose, a dairy component that is often discarded during cheese production.

“Black Cow is the world’s only pure milk vodka, and everything in our bottles is made from cow’s milk,” Black Cow co-founder Paul Archard said in a news release. “We’re thrilled to launch our beautifully designed premium milk carton packaging, which is sure to grab shoppers’ attention.”

It was initially only available through Black Cow’s online store, The gift boxes are currently available in selected Co-op and convenience stores in England, and the company plans to start selling them in Sainsbury’s grocery stores next month.

Sensei Farm has changed its vegetable packaging to be more sustainable, the company announced in a news release. The vegetables will now be packaged in: Paperboard tray with transparent window The new box replaces a plastic clamshell, which the company says reduces plastic by 90 percent by weight compared to the previous version. The panels are perforated to allow the tray to be disassembled and the liner to be removed and recycled, the company said. Peelable Resealable closure.

“Environmentally friendly solutions often come with a higher price tag, so we knew we needed to remove the barriers to adoption,” Jessica Vashisht, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Sensei Farms, said in a press release. The company said it won’t pass on the additional costs to customers or consumers.

The newly packaged vegetable and salad mixes are currently available at select Albertsons stores in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Safeway. The new packaging will also be available in the Hawaiian Islands later this quarter.
