No. 1-ranked Tennessee edged Evansville, 12-1, in the deciding Game 3 of the Knoxville Super Regional on Sunday night to punch its ticket to Omaha for the third time in four years, marking the first time Tennessee has appeared in back-to-back College World Series appearances.
UT got some great pitching performances from its seniors. Xander SechristIn his final start at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, he pitched a career-high 6.1 innings, striking out six and exiting the game with one out in the seventh inning to a standing ovation from Tennessee fans.
Sechrist received plenty of scoring support en route to his fourth win of the season, with the Big Orange hitting seven home runs to tie a program record in a single game. Christian Moore Originally from Omaha Dalton Virgoeach had two.
After the Purple Aces (39-26) scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, Moore quickly tied the game with a rocket over the left field porch, and the Vols dominated from there. Moore hit his second extra-base hit, driving in 32 runs.and He had the best RBI in the bottom of the fourth inning, UT’s four-run game, and also scored three runs in the game.
Blake Burke He also performed well at bat, recording a career-high four hits (three of which were doubles).

While the offense was red hot, Tennessee’s relief pitchers were just as impressive following Sechrist’s stellar start, not allowing a single hit over the final 2.2 innings. Nate Snead, Dylan Roy, Kirby Connell and Marcus Phillips All recorded at least one out.
Cal McGinnis and Ty Ramsey each had two hits for Evansville, and Brett Weider singled with two outs in the top of the first to score the Aces’ lone run. Starting pitcher Kevin Reed gave up five runs on four hits and two walks in just 1.1 innings to fall to 5-3 on the season.
next: Tennessee (55-12) will face Florida State, the No. 8 seed in the nation, in the College World Series opener on Friday or Saturday. Official times for Friday and Saturday’s games will be announced in the coming days.
Game Statistics: Seven of UT’s 12 hits Sunday night were home runs, and the seven homers were the most in an NCAA Tournament game, surpassing the six they hit in a 2021 Super Regional win over LSU on June 13. Sunday marked the sixth time this year that the Big Orange hit six or more home runs in a game.
