For the Swifties, the Elas Tour was a defining moment in Taylor Swift’s lauded career. Tickets were highly competitive for this ground-breaking tour, which celebrates various eras of Taylor Swift over the years. Ticketmaster, her concert ticket sales site, has seen unprecedented demand. So for many avid Swifties, seeing the Eras tour in theaters is their first chance to see the show. And a movie theater employee takes us behind the scenes of this big-screen event via her TikTok.
Recently, a movie theater worker @KariHollywood He shared footage from a surveillance camera during the screening of Illustrated. There I saw a group of Swifties dancing in a circle in front of the theater.
“What Swifty looks like to a movie theater employee is the most cultish thing I’ve ever seen,” the employee said, later adding in the video description that he was referring to the 2019 horror film “Mid.” He added, “It has a Midsummer feel,” referring to “Summer.”
Viewers of the video, which now has more than 8 million views, had no idea what to make of the spectacle.
“I think it’s naive. How often do we really feel like kids again?” commenter @bumpster69 asked.
@dejuanhayter replied, “Not in a dark movie theater. It’s not cute.”
But for everyone who found the atmosphere a little creepy, there were other theatergoers who shared how wholesome their experience was at the Elas screening.
“When I went there today, some girls came running up to me and I was too shy to start dancing by myself. Then everyone else joined in and I cried,” said one viewer. @tattedunicorn2 shared.
Watson did not immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment via Instagram direct message.
As Swifties flock to movie theaters, there are many questions about what movie theater etiquette applies. When a TikTok showing Swifties singing and dancing during a screening of Eras goes viral, users are divided on whether this ruins the experience for other viewers or whether they should expect this kind of atmosphere.
