Former finance minister says it’s time to say goodbye to electoral politics, make it official and move on

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Sindh general secretary and former Finance Minister Mikhta Ismail has announced his resignation from all positions within the party.

Ismail communicated his decision through a letter of resignation addressed to PML-N Central Secretary General Asan Iqbal. A copy is available at: Express Tribune, Saturday.

Since being ousted as finance minister last year, Mikhta Ismail has been an outspoken opponent of the prevailing governance system in the country, even criticizing his own party. He laments that only 1 percent of the elite ruled the country to the detriment of the 99 percent of the people under their control.

Sub-ethnic, sectarian and religious conflicts of interest are often distracted in Pakistan, but the tentacles of the elite and their impact on the overwhelming majority of the population are largely ignored, he said.

In today’s letter, Mr Ismail said: “Considering the upcoming party reorganization, I believe it is time to officially announce the fact that it is already the case and move forward. Therefore, I am the PML-N Sindh State Secretary General. I offer my resignation as a I will also resign from all party committees. ”

Mr Ismail thanked the party leadership and acknowledged the trust and responsibility placed on him. He specifically referred to PML-N Supreme Chairman Nawaz Sharif and President Shebaz Sharif for his kindness and consideration over the years.

He also thanked the leaders Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Mr. Khawaja Asif, Mr. Ayaz Sadiq, Mr. Pervaiz Rashid and Mr. Shahid Kakhan Abbasi for their leadership and friendship.

While confirming his withdrawal from electoral politics, Ismail emphasized his shared vision with party members for a socially just, economically stable and well-governed Pakistan.

He closed the letter by congratulating the party, its leaders and Asan Iqbal personally.

Mikhta Ismail’s decision marks an important juncture for the PML-N as it goes through a restructuring process to strengthen its political position in the country. The resignation of such a prominent figure within the party raises questions about the internal dynamics and future direction of the PML-N.
