Considering that fast food restaurants process a large number of orders every day, it’s no surprise that employees make occasional mistakes. But as TikTok user Haille Fitzgerald (@haillefitzgerald) pointed out after a recent trip to McDonald’s, some of the mistakes feel almost vindictive.
“I said no onions,” Fitzgerald says in the video, which has now been viewed more than 16,000 times. The video shows a McDonald’s hamburger, and notes that the order request was “no onions.”
Upon opening the burger, Fitzgerald makes an unpleasant discovery. I can’t find my burger patty.
“No meat!” she shouts. “It’s just cheese and pickles!”
@haillefitzgerald Sorry McDonalds, next time I’ll just eat onions 😔 #McDonalds #wth #Fast food #Burger #foodworker #fyp #for you #explosion ♬ Original song – Haile Cruz Fitzgerald
In the caption, Fitzgerald added: “Sorry Mr. McDonald. Next time I’ll just eat onions.”
This isn’t the first time a McDonald’s incident has sparked discussion on TikTok. One user claimed that he only received two apple slices even though he ordered apple slices. Another TikTok user based in Canada requested poutine, a dish made with fries, cheese curds, and gravy. What the TikToker got makes us wonder if McDonald’s even knew what poutine was.
All of this is not to mention the many errors that have occurred as a result of McDonald’s AI-powered drive-thru machines. In one case, the AI added bacon to a soft serve ice cream cone. In another case, the AI decided to give his TikToker 8 more sweet tea than he requested.
In the comments section of Ms. Fitzgerald’s video, several users pointed out that at least McDonald’s employees seemed to have complied with her request not to eat onions.
“Okay, but I don’t have any onions,” the user wrote.
“But we don’t have any onions,” added another.
One user shared a similar experience, but it was the opposite.
“I asked for a plain cheeseburger once and they just gave me a patty,” the commenter claimed. “There was no bun, and there was no cheese on it.”
If a customer wants a refund due to a failed order, McDonald’s will suggest Please return to the store in question and resolve the issue.
