Matt Damon and Emily Blunt team up in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the true story of the man who spearheaded the creation of the atomic bomb, played by Cillian Murphy.
“Extra”‘s Tommy Didario talks to the duo about their friendship on film and off screen. Additionally, Matt made a sweet confession about her best friend Ben Affleck, which Emily jokingly called “disgusting.”
Tommy asked Emily and Matt: What makes each other good friends? “
Blunt shared, “Yeah, sometimes I bring out chips and dips…that’s good for Super Bowl parties.”
Matt added, “I’ll keep your tequila. It’s the type of tequila you guys like.”
Emily got serious and continued. She said, “It’s really important to me to have a friend I can count on, a friend who understands every aspect of the business and understands the plights and compromises you may face. I rely on John [Krasinski] I do both and it’s the best. It’s like a secret language we speak to each other. The fact that you can hang out with him in slippers is even more cozy. it’s the best. “
Damon agreed, saying, I draw ideas from them all the time. I respect them very much. It’s nice to be able to take the elevator down to their apartment and implement an idea with them. “
Emily teased as she reached out to Damon. I’ll trim her eyebrows. that’s a good friend “
Damon said, “You can’t fix your eyebrows. I don’t know… When I turned 50, they started going everywhere.”
Emily said to him, “Yes, you have very expressive eyebrows now that you are 50.”
While discussing the film, Tommy asked Matt if he was familiar with his character, Manhattan Project director General Groves, before filming.
“No, it’s not,” he said. “It was very interesting because there was so much tension between the military and scientists. Take it and share as much information as possible…”What do you know?” Let’s build on each other’s work and knowledge. ’ So there was this kind of constant tension that was really interesting to learn about and then play. “
Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty, played by Emily, is not your typical 1950s housewife, but a fierce and feisty personality.
Blount said, “She was just a misfit. And… he was her fourth husband when she was 29 and when they met, it speaks to the wildness in her. And she was pretty uncompromising about how she wanted to live her life, but once they came to Los Alamos and experienced that loneliness and loneliness, no matter how close they were to each other, Perhaps the decline of this woman, who was destined for an intellectual endeavour, rather than having children, is inevitable.”
Didario said, “Oppenheimer built the atomic bomb. If there is anything you can create or invent, what is it?”
Matt said, “Atomic Blocker… I wish I had one.”
Emily added. She said, “Your story was deep.
Tommy continued, “If you could have a great, inspiring conversation with someone, who would you turn to?”
