Ice cream shops around Erie said they were busy this holiday weekend.
Memorial Day weekend marked the unofficial start of summer for many, but for ice cream stores, it’s just the beginning.
“Ice cream season is summer holidays, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, so we’re open seven days a week. We have a lot of customers who want ice cream on the holidays, or even every day, so those are very busy days for us,” said David Stromenger, co-owner of Connie’s Ice Cream and Presque Isle Pizza.
“We’re seeing a lot of people and regulars that we don’t normally see. We normally close at 9 o’clock, but we still have people coming in to buy ice cream after 9 o’clock,” said Annika Semoe, assistant manager at Whippy Dip 2.
Both stores said they are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring.
