MLSC President and CEO Kenn Turner said: “Our ecosystem is at a critical time that requires collaboration and bold leadership to change the complexion of our workforce. is being strongly strengthened in collaboration with our partners.”
This program is aimed at underrepresented students of Worcester Public Schools and focuses on the conception, design and implementation of medical devices for developing countries. Mensah is a Principal Investigator (PI) on his MLSC grant, Dirk AlbrechtAn associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering is a co-principal investigator.
“Interest in a career in medical product development usually starts in college,” says Mensah. “The goal of this summer’s program is to expose high school students to the field and enable underrepresented young people to go to college with an engineering degree and then find a job or start a company in the medical device industry. That’s it.”
Mensah plans to seek additional funding to launch a summer program at WPI in 2023.
Mensah, a faculty member since 2021, said: therapeutic innovationis an organization that develops medical devices that can expand healthcare in developing countries.
