As Fort Myers Beach continues to rebuild after Hurricane Ian, two iconic sites are in the design stage for contract: Fort Myers Beach Pier and Lynn Hall Memorial Park.
The Lee County Commission signed two contracts at Tuesday’s meeting:
- $1.17 million to Stantec Consulting Services Inc. of Fort Myers for an alternative pier design.
- $579,800 to DRMP Inc., with offices in Fort Myers and Boca Raton, for the design of Lynn Hall Memorial Park.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Relief Fund will pay for the design.

Hurricane Ian struck southwest Florida on September 28, 2022, wreaking havoc on the island. Over the past 19 months, homeowners and businesses have reclaimed their paradise, but there is a long road ahead.
“As we work to restore Fort Myers Beach and continue to look forward, we believe that a collaborative approach with the community, town leaders, and the county will lead us to take another important step forward.” I believe that,” said District 3 Commissioner Ray Sandelli.

The pier, off Times Square on the western tip of Estero Island and adjacent to Lynn Hall Memorial Park, attracts tourists, locals and anglers as pelicans and seagulls fly overhead and jellyfish, stingrays and dolphins migrate below. get together.
The pier was first built in 1930 and last renovated in 1990.
The design maintains the “historic integrity” of the original pier and meets new permit and regulatory requirements, according to a news release.
Officials estimate the design portion will take approximately 18 months to complete, after which the board will award a construction contract.
Lynn Hall Memorial Park
The design contract for 950 Estero Blvd., a five-acre park at the foot of the Matanzas Pass Bridge, includes surveying, design, permitting, engineering and construction-related services.
Established in the 1950s, the park is named for Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy Dwight Lynn Hall, who died on April 11, 1979. He was killed in the line of duty by his 15-year-old boy while patrolling Fort Myers Beach. There are restrooms, four boardwalks, an information kiosk, two large picnic shelters with grills, and public parking.
After Hurricane Ian, the county demolished the remaining boardwalks, restrooms, and picnic shelters. The project will restore the park to its pre-hurricane condition, the county said in a release.
It will take approximately one year for the design to be completed.
