Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar, convicted of sexually abusing a female gymnast, was stabbed multiple times during an argument with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida.

A union official representing prison employees confirmed to NBC News that Nassar was stabbed in the neck, chest and back during Sunday’s attack on Coleman Prison in Florida and suffered a collapsed lung.

Local 506 president Joe Rojas said Monday he is in stable condition.

The attack was first reported by the Associated Press. No further details about the incident were immediately available, and officials said an investigation was ongoing.

Nassar was sentenced to decades in prison for sexually assaulting a gymnast, including an Olympic medalist.

Nassar has served decades in prison after being convicted in state and federal courts. He admitted to sexually assaulting athletes while working at Michigan State University and the United States Gymnastics Arena, which trains Olympic athletes. Separately, Nassar pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

In a 2018 victim impact statement, several athletes shared what happened to adults, including coaches and athletic trainers, over the course of Nassar’s more than two decades of sexual abuse. and testified that it was not reported.
