LAKE GEORGE — The village board will announce a moratorium on water connections on new commercial properties in towns outside the village to conduct water quality studies for 10 to 12 weeks.
The Board will vote on resolutions at its December meeting. A moratorium is proposed for six months.
According to a news release from the village, the board hired CT Male Engineering to conduct a survey of the village’s water system and evaluate options for the growing needs of the area.
Lake George Town supervisor Dennis Dickinson said Richard Schermerhorn’s plans to develop housing on the site of Water Slide World was the driving force behind the decision to conduct the study.
“We are interested in large-scale water utilization projects and the villages have enough water, but they want to make sure that they have the necessary amount of water for these projects, so we are not looking into water research. I was urged to do this,” Dickinson said.

The Lake George Village water purification system currently serves more than 1,800 residents and businesses in the town and village of Lake George. Both the town and the village operate water purification plants, but the Diamond Point town-run facility serves less than 100 residents with a well water system, while the village factory operates 1,800 water plants in the village and town. Today, the village’s water is pumped directly from Lake George from the Beach Road pumping station to a modern water treatment plant on Ottawa Street and distributed throughout the system.
The village serves users north of Hearthstone Park on Route 9N, south of Route 9L, and east of the lake.

“Village officials were concerned that the current filtration plant could not handle more than expected and joined City Hall to fund a $43,000 study. It is expected to take ~14 weeks,” said a release Tuesday.
