WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Colby accountant has been charged with allegedly defrauding clients.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Quintin Flanagin, 43, of Colby, made his first appearance Wednesday in federal court in Wichita.
Flanagin is charged with:
- 7 wire fraud cases
- 4 cases of bank fraud
- 2 false answers
- 6 charges of money laundering
Mr. Flanagin, a certified public accountant and co-owner of the company, was hired by the owners of Diamond M. Farms in Thomas County to handle the company’s accounting operations, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Mr. Flanagin managed the farm’s payroll, acted as a signatory, and was given full access to the farm’s bank accounts.
He is accused of starting a fake business called Middlefinger Ranch and adding the name to his personal bank account. From December 2021 to August 2022, he allegedly wrote multiple checks and wired a total of approximately $409,710 from Diamond M. Farms to Middlefinger Ranch.
In 2021, Flanagin hired a construction company to build a new home. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, records show payments were made to home construction contractors from Middlefinger Ranch’s bank account within days of the money being transferred from Diamond M. Farms’ account.
This incident was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
