The TV series “True Crime News” is buzzing over an exclusive new interview with JonBenet Ramsey’s father, John Ramsey.
The 6-year-old girl was murdered in her Colorado home in 1996 and the killer was never found.
Nearly 28 years after his daughter’s death, John says he found DNA from an unidentified man from January 1997.
DNA was found on the weapon but it was never tested, he said.
“There are seven pieces of DNA that are considered key evidence, but they have not yet been tested,” host Ana Garcia said during the interview.
Ramsay responded: “That is correct. These items were sent to a laboratory for testing but were sent back untested.”
One of those items was the noose used to strangle JonBenet. “Why don’t they do a DNA test?” Garcia asked.
John responded, “I don’t know why we didn’t test it first.”
“Extra’s” Billy Bush caught up with Garcia to talk about the incident.
She explained, “Thirty years later we find out there is evidence that John was never DNA tested,” adding, “Some of it was DNA tested, but it was with old science and technology. Everything has changed in 30 years.”
Garcia, an eight-time Emmy Award winner for investigative journalism, has secured other big exclusives for the daily series.
She told Billy why she’s drawn to true crime, explaining, “It’s a survivor’s story. When I hear what they’ve been through, it makes me ask myself: ‘If you had taken my child from me, would I be able to get up in the morning and face the world?'”
She continued, “And I just marvel at the human spirit and strength to have survived such a horrific event.”
Ana says her work “gives a voice to the voiceless”, “including victims and survivors”.
