Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard’s new film “Memory” gets rave reviews!
Extra’s Terry Seymour spoke to Jessica and Peter about the film, which is about a woman caring for a man with early-onset dementia.
The role is the polar opposite of Jessica’s 2022 Oscar-winning role as the late televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in Tammy. “I always tried to capture the energy of what Tammy would be in, Sylvia,” Jessica said. It’s very lonely. She has many secrets that she cannot tell anyone, and she is very closed-minded. ”
When asked how she manages to leave behind such a heavy work at the end of the day, Jessica revealed that she cried at home while filming “Scenery of a Marriage”.
She explained: “Scenes from a Marriage,” I tell you, it wasn’t easy to go home every day. You might start crying in the kitchen while you’re eating breakfast. With Sylvia, She found a way to get on with life.”
Peter wanted to “turn that narrative around” for people living with dementia. He commented, “If we can send a message to the world that there is still time to live even after being diagnosed, that is a good thing.”
Peter said he had “no interest” in playing his character as “brooding”, adding: “I wanted to play someone who was greedy about life.”
While reading the script for the film, Peter remembered his uncle, who lives with dementia.
“Memory” will be released in select theaters starting January 5th.
