The season finale of “The Bachelorette” has arrived, and we finally find out if Jenn Tran has found love.
WARNING: SPOILER ALERT
Jen had to choose between Marcus Shoberg and Devin Strader… and in the end she chose Devin!
Tran revealed during the episode that he planned to propose to Strader, but the engagement didn’t last long.
In a shocking turn of events, he broke up with her before the final episode of the show.
So instead of seeing Jen propose to Devin, viewers first heard her explain what happened.
“It’s been a really tough few months,” she said. “We got engaged and left Hawaii very happy. I thought I’d found the person I’d spend the rest of my life with, but as soon as we left Hawaii, everything changed. It felt like he was pulling away from me.”
Strader had stopped calling and emailing as much as he used to, which left her “confused.”
“I felt like I was secondary to everything else in his life… and I didn’t understand why,” Tran said. “We were a happy couple. [visit] We had planned it early last month, but the night before he called me and essentially called off our engagement. He said he didn’t love me anymore and didn’t feel the same way he did before…he regretted getting engaged.”
Jen suggested they break off their engagement and just date, but ultimately, “he just wasn’t interested anymore. He didn’t want it anymore.” While they were fighting for their relationship, Jen said, “He didn’t want to go to couples counseling and he didn’t want to fight for it anymore. It was over.”
“All the promises he made to me, all the love he wanted to give me, is now gone,” Tran added.
The last time Jen and Devin met was in July, so when they finally met in front of the cameras, Tran had some doubts.
“What I don’t understand is everything you did after we broke off our engagement,” she said, asking why he pursued former “Bachelor” contestant Maria Georgas after their breakup. Strader simply responded, “I cheated on you. There’s nothing else to say, but everything I felt about you was real.”
As for what ultimately went wrong, Devin said, “When I left the show, I had a lot of doubts, and I was honest about that.”
He continued: “It’s hard for me to sit here and deny that you are accusing me. Unfortunately, I was late in letting you know. All I can do is sit here and take responsibility for my own shortcomings.”
Jen said she was “heartbroken” as she rewatched the archival footage, which will air on Monday night. He told her: “I’m not here to save face. I have nothing to gain from being here other than to make sure you’re OK. That’s what I came here for.”
Trying to explain further, he spoke about their time together, saying, “I was watching this beautiful girl grow up. It was amazing watching you. I realized I was inadequate in the real world…I was watching you grow up, and then I was watching me contribute to your regression.”
The former couple then watched footage of the proposal together.
In the footage, Devin tells Jen, “I love you with all my heart,” and Jen claims she “never doubted him for a second.”
Jen poured her heart out to Devin, declaring, “Devin, I love you so much but I can’t make you propose to me. I’ve decided to choose myself on this journey and I am my best self when I’m with you.”
“I want to fight for you every day,” she continued. “You’re everything I dreamed of but never thought I’d have. I want to wake up every day for the rest of my life and choose you.”
Jen proposed with a wedding ring inside a seashell, and he said “yes 100 times over.”
Then it was Devin’s turn, and he proposed to Jen, asking, “Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”
Back in the studio, Devin admitted, “I made a lot of promises and I totally believed them at the time,” adding, “That man loved you and I understand I couldn’t keep the promises I made to you.”
Jen responded: “I hope you learn that your words matter.”
Jesse Palmer praised Jen for showing strength throughout her journey and said he’s confident she’ll find great love.
